freecycle has hooked me up yet again....

this morning stephen and i drove over to the office and workroom of brooklyn guild and took about 50 cubic feet of foam off their hands. i would have taken more, but there wasn't enough room in the car.

it is now residing in the back room.

the cats have mostly ignored it so far, but i've got my eye on trucky, i know he's dreaming of toppling the whole lot....

i'm really excited about this haul. i wasn't sure what i was going to do about pillow inserts—i was looking into all sorts of natural/recycled stuffing options and not finding anything that made me very happy. but now i have my foam! oh and it's not just any foam: it was originally used in a window display in the stella mccartney store. i'm sure she'd be very happy to hear that it is being reused....


p.s. i forgot my camera this past weekend at art star—plus it was raining too hard all day saturday to take good pictures—but i do have this one shot of my goose guarding my tent and tables as we closed down saturday night....

despite the rain, art star was a total blast, and i hope to do it again next year. i met some awesome vendors....more about that soon.....

yesterday afternoon i submitted my work to design*sponge (the most wonderful design blog out there), and this morning....



yay!

after talking about it for about 6 months, i finally actually made placemats...! they'll debut this weekend at the brooklyn flea. my animals looked too little and lost on the big bad placemat, so instead i appliqued on a motif that i cut from a sheet.

just had to share.... i found out tonight that i got into two awesome summer craft fairs:

the art star craft bazaar in philly,

and

the renegade craft fair, right here in brooklyn!

i've applied for several fairs and markets coming up this spring and summer, which means i've been contemplating my display strategy. i have in the past used wire baskets that i borrowed from sarah, but then she called and said she needed somewhere to put her fruit and vegetables or some such nonsense.... clearly i needed something that wouldn't be repossessed. i had this idea that old interior shutters would be cool, but where was i going to find old interior shutters?

at my in-laws' house, apparently.

my m.i.l. was finally changing stephen's old bedroom into a guest room. which means, on the minus side, that our house is now full of all the "treasures" that had been in his closet.... but on the plus side, we'll have a brand new queen-size pull-out sofa to sleep on when we stay there, AND i scored the old shutters!



the only thing standing in my way (aside from a little paint touch-up and a good cleaning) was the bar that ran down the center of the louvers:



the whole operation needed to be excised---the bar and the metal bits that were holding it in. i contemplated my removal options:



i tried the needle-nose pliers first...



...and thankfully, with some effort, they did the trick. i really didn't want to have to break out the hacksaw.

and so, voila!





p.s. i had planned on posting all of my fabulous florida thrift scores, but on wednesday night my laptop crashed, all data lost....it's at the shop now, i'm trying to stay optimistic that the tekserve peeps can do their magic.....

happy spring, even though it's 40˚ out!

these are at least making me feel like spring might be here sometime soon....

thanks to everyone who stopped by! i had a great time, the only drawback being that there was a little issue with the heat in the store, as in, there wasn't much of it. but the next place i'm selling is outdoors, so i figure this was just toughening me up....
